On your hike down the Rogue River Trail, picture sleeping under the stars (or in a tent), surrounded by a valley of falling yellow and orange leaves. The hillside is glowing with the fall’s golden colors as the group slowly journeys downriver from camp to camp on the leaf-covered trail. On a 5-day camping hike down the Rogue River Trail, we slow the trip down a little and allow for plenty of time to enjoy all that Oregon has to offer. This is the opportunity to sleep under the stars and eat under the sky. However, don’t think that because it’s a camping trip we leave the luxury at home. Our camping trips include three-course dinners with freshly baked deserts, and warm cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We make sure you can relax with a glass of wine or the cold beverage of your choice while watching the sunset over the canyon. On this hiking trip, leave the freeze-dried food and throw in a bottle of wine, this is not your normal backpacking adventure.
The Rogue River Canyon is a special place, filled with active wildlife, including deer, elk, bear, turtles, eagles and otters to name a few. The trail the group hikes on was built by miners and settlers in the early 1900s, and because it is in the protected wild and scenic canyon, the scenery is much the same today as it was a century ago. The group journeys on sections where the trail was carved into the riverside cliffs and also retreats into lusciously green tributary corridors. This is a unique location with scenery and wildlife that never fail to amaze.
So come to the Rogue River and hike with only a few pounds on your back and only until you decide you’re tired enough and it’s time to hop on the raft. An Orange Torpedo trip makes it easier to focus on taking in the parts of the hike you value: the wildlife, the scenery, and the friends you decide to share this amazing experience with. Spend your energy enjoying your vacation, not suffering through it with 50 pounds on your back; spend your vacation hiking the Rogue River Trail with Orange Torpedo Trips.

"Eric, I missed you on our return back to the shop following our three day Rogue River Kayaking trip. Wanted to let you know what an outstanding time my family had and thank you and your team for such a great adventure. This was our first time on the river, and the first time going down a river in our own boats. It was exciting, interesting, relaxing, all wrapped up in a single trip!
Thinking back, there were a number of things that made the trip great besides the scenery and the river:
Guides
Clearly, this makes or breaks the trip, and our guide team, led by Mike, were outstanding in their knowledge of the river, ability to work with client's range of abilities, and their general good spirits in making the trip fun while focussing on safety.
Equipment
The kayaks were great, but so was the large supply raft which my wife and daughter traded between. It was a good balance for them, while I liked the kayaks end to end.
Lodging/Meals
Although I hear the camping trip on the Snake River is a good time, it was nice to get some lazy boy treatment at the lodges along the river; great hospitality, hot shower, soft bed, and great food.
Good company
Icing on the cake was the group you put together 20 clients from different parts of the country with various backgrounds. This made it fun and interesting to connect with people you might not otherwise get the opportunity to converse with. With my family ranging in age from 14 to 50, we all found this a bonus.
My wife and kids can't wait to receive your DVD, as the pictures and video shows of our group were fun to watch at the lodge on the 2nd night. Anyway, I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this was a great value and something we will look forward to again!
Thanks again, to you and your team. Paul"

"I just wanted to send a quick e-mail to thank you for a great trip last weekend. It was amazing as always! Everything was perfect: guides, water, weather, food, drink, lodges etc. As much as I thought I was going to miss not having some of my old favorite guides on the trip it was great to meet some new folks! Jen, Bill and Ted were new to me this year, however certainly not new to the river (I couldn't believe the years of experience on the water the crew had). They were great both on and off the water! Always good to see Hose, Tim and Grant, they are truly people that I look forward to seeing and spending time with every summer. I was telling Travis that I want to grow up to be Tim some day, unfortunately I think I missed my window. Those of us in the service industry don't always hear positive feedback and I want you to know that you and your crew have got this thing dialed in. The whole thing is really first rate and your staff provide great customer service (either you do a great job of hiring or there is just something about river guides (maybe a little of both)), that was my fourth OTT trip and you are batting 1000! Again, thank you for all that you and your staff do, you have provided me with life time memories!
Dan"
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at 9 AM at the Rogue River Center (210 Merlin Road, Merlin, Oregon) to meet your head guide and receive Rogue River Trail hiking trip orientation. Orientation will include information on the layout of the Rogue River trail including daily miles and where the steeper sections of the trail are in case you plan to ride the raft. The trip orientation will also include a basic white water rafting orientation to prepare you for any raft riding you choose to do. This is also when you will be supplied with a dry bag to pack your personal items. This is the bag to put everything you want to access at night. It will go on the raft where you will have a limited ability to access it during the day. Anything you want on the trail needs to go into your backpack. When everyone has their bags packed, vans will be loaded and the group will drive the 20 minutes down the Rogue River to the trail-head. At Grave Creek boat ramp the group will meet the rest of the guides, pick up a lunch and start walking down the trail.
This first day on the trail has plenty of beautiful viewpoints including the historic Whiskey Creek Cabin. This is a pretty easy warm up day with only about five miles of hiking. Tyee is a wonderful camp to spend the afternoon swimming, relaxing, and generally unwinding as you start your wilderness adventure.
Day 2. The second day of the Rogue River Trail is 8.2 miles of beautiful scenery. For most of this day the trail is up away from the river providing long distance vistas of the deep Rogue River gorge.
Day 3. Day three is a little longer day at 9.5 miles, but it leads to one of the premier camps on the river. During this day the trail varies from riverside cliffs above Kelsey canyon while also retreating up some tributary gorges. This a wonderful varied day providing a great workout combined with spectacular scenery all leading to an amazing camp right on a tributary creek.
Day 4. This is the highlight day for many hikers on the Rogue River Trail. The trail navigates the cliffs above beautiful mule creek canyon. At this unique gorge the river funnels through a crack in the bottom of the canyon being condensed to under 15 feet wide at its narrowest point. Near the bottom of the canyon the trail hosts a spectacular view of Staircase falls making for one of the finest photo opportunities of the trail. In the afternoon the trail leaves the river and cuts through the lush forrest behind Brushy Bar. This is a beautiful journey through a deeply green thicket with a beautiful fern filled forest floor. Today is the longest day at 10 miles.
Day 5: The final push out. At 8.2 miles and the steepest vertical climbs and descents make this a great conclusion to the hike. Many do decide to hope on the raft and skip the steep hills at the end. At the end of the hike the group will walk the extra 1/2 mile to foster bar where we meet the raft and the shuttle van back to the Rogue River Center.
