A unique and once in a lifetime opportunity to see the very best of Bornean wildlife. From Orangutans in the wild, endangered Hawksbill Turtles, relax in Bali and an optional trip to Komodo island, home to the Komodo Dragon. A true nature lovers paradise.
Take a boat cruise deep into the Bornean rainforests of the Central Kalimantan province in South Borneo, to a very special place indeed. Camp Leakey is a world famous research and conservation centre and world leaders in saving orangutan populations from extinction in the wild, protect orangutan habitats and rehabilitate and release wild-born ex-captive orangutans back to the wild.
Meet Orangutans up close and personal in their natural habitat. This extraordinary trip is a nature lovers paradise, not only that but your trip directly funds conservation efforts at the camp. Here we venture further into the rainforest where you can catch a glimpse of wild Orangutans in their natural habitat, as well as proboscis monkeys, anteaters, crocodiles, lemurs, porcupines and gibbons.
Following our time in the rainforest, we travel on down the river to the coast where we see the nesting grounds for hawksbill and green turtles. We spend time with the villagers, and conservationists working to safeguard the future of these species in the region. Depending on timing may even release baby turtles back into the wild.
Optional Extension
For those who like to explore further you can opt to travel to Komodo Island, the land of the Komodo Dragon. We travel back to Bali and then on to these stunning islands for 3 days. En-route we stop at Flying Fox island to view literally thousands of fruit bats on their daily exodus from the caves and mangroves for an ariel display that is up there with the best arial displays you could hope to see.

beautiful views, great culture, friendly people and peaceful atmosphere in
Bali. Meals are not included however there are several great local restaurants

Day 2: BALI
TO JAKRATA / SURABAYA TP PANGKALAN BUN - This morning we will take a private
minivan to the airport to catch a flight to Pangkalan Bun via Jakarta. Upon
arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport our team will greet you and we will travel to
Kumai to board your floating home for the next 3 nights. The boat is a traditional
Klotok wooden river boat which many past customers have called the
"African Queen" riverboat style with a roof which forms the upper
deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The guide's team
includes the boatman, a cook and expert guide. In the peaceful afternoon we
will drift slowly along the river keeping a keen eye out for the monkeys, birds
and other jungle wildlife along the riverside. Dinner and overnight on the
Klotok boat.
Day 3:
ORANGTUAN EXPLORATION - After breakfast on board the Klotok we travel up river
for about 2 hours and then up a side creek to Camp Leakey. This is where the
older orangutans used to be reintroduced into the rainforest. We will also stop
at Pondok Tanguy, the former rehabilitation center. As we arrive at Camp Leakey
you will have the opportunity to trek into the rainforest with our expert guide
and the forestry rangers to catch a glimpse of wild orangutans, gibbons,
macaques, and birds. Lunch is provided on the boat. In the afternoon we will
visit the feeding station to see first hand the Orangutan rehabilitation
centre, which your trip is funding directly. You will meet the team of
conservationists, naturists and experts leading in this field of primate
research and conservation. In the late evening will then sail back down the
river to overnight on the Klotok boat.
Day 4:
RAINFOREST ENCOUNTER - Today we go deeper into the rainforest searching for
wild Orangutan, Gibbon and other endemic wildlife. It is a long day with a lot
of walking through light jungle, remember your mosquito repellent and bottled
water. It is hot in the jungle! All meals and overnight stay on the boat.

onto Tanjung Keluang Beach, an idyllic stretch of pristine white sand with calm
shallow sea, tropical mangroves and an abundance of wildlife. It is common to
see Water Weasels, Eagles and King Fishers. This national park is also the
spawning grounds for the rare Hawksbill Turtle and Green Turtle. Here we visit
an exceptional conservation program and if the time is right you may even have
the opportunity to release turtles back to their natural habitat. In the late
afternoon we will take the boat back to Kumai and drive to project Yayorin.
Yayorin have been developing agricultural demonstration plots to teach
agro-forestry to local farmers and agribusiness students, to create alternative
income streams for locals rather than making money through deforestation. Here
you can see a unique, low impact fish farming initiative that generates an
alternative income for local communities. Head back to our charming river boat
for overnight.
