Experience the Flying Fox island to view literally thousands of fruit bats on their daily exodus from the caves and mangroves for an ariel display that is up there with the best arial displays you could hope to see.
How to Encounter a Dragon is a trip Inspired by naturalist Catherine Capon
"As cold-blooded creatures, the Komodo dragons are more active at certain times of the day. A good time to visit Rinca or Komodo is first thing in the morning when the dragons are warming their scales in the early sun. They’ll be out in the open at this time and fairly still for photographs. A sighting of a dragon isn’t guaranteed as these animals are completely wild. However, if you’re lucky, an encounter with the largest living lizard on earth will certainly get your heart racing. At 10 feet long, these giant reptiles, with their loose leathery skin and mouths dripping with toxic, bacteria-filled salvia, are an intimidating sight. Even the guides are cautious leading you around the forest as one was recently killed from a deadly bite. As cannibals, it seems there is no large prey item that is off limits to the dragons and some ecotourists are lucky enough (or unlucky enough depending on your point of view) to see them feed. Their method of hunting is incredibly cruel. They’ll bite a deer or water buffalo (often on the hind legs) then run away. From then, that deadly saliva will infect the prey and make them weak. The dragon will follow the unfortunate animal until it’s too sick to fight back and then feast on its flesh – often whilst it’s still alive! " Catherine Capon. Day 1:
LABUAN BAJO, RINCA ISLAND & KALONG ISLAND - Upon arrival at Labuan Bajo
airport you will be met by our local staff and you will be taken by private car
to the harbour (10 minute drive) to board your boat to start your adventure to
Rinca Island! The journey is 2.5 hours and lunch will be served to you on the
boat. Rinca Island is one of the small islands in the Komodo National Park, it
is home to various species of wild animals such as monkeys, pigs, deers, Komodo
dragons themselves and many more. This is when we will explore the island!
Along with the forestry rangers and guide, we go in search of the Komodo dragon
as well as other exotic wildlife and fauna. Trekking can be chosen for short,
medium or long trek. After this, we will proceed boating to Kalong Island which
will take around 1 hour. Kalong Island is a small island covered by mangrove
trees and is the ideal habitat for bats (flying foxes) - so keep a look out! In
the afternoon you will experience the spectacular sight of thousands of bats
together searching for food. A healthy and adventurous dinner will be served
for you on the boat.
Day 2:
KALONG ISLAND, KOMODO ISLAND, PINK BEACH SNORKELLING & LABUAN BAJO -
Breakfast will be served and after this, we start the exciting second day!
Sailing for around 2 hours to Loh Liang station on Komodo Island, where we will
trek for an hour to Banugulung, the former feeding ground to see some Komodo
dragons in the wild. As like in Rinca, trekking can be chosen from short,
medium and long trek. On the way to Banugulung you will encounter several other
animals including wild pigs, deers and various colourful birds. We return to
the boat for lunch and then we will journey for 1 hour to the famous ‘Pink
