On our small group walking tour to Amafi we visit an area of sensational coastal scenery of limestone cliffs, serpentine roads and terraced lemon groves with famous towns like Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. Villages and remote monasteries here have long been connected by a series of ancient footpaths, which provide a perfect opportunity for walking and hiking.

On this walking tour you are rewarded with stunning views of the Mediterranean Coastline whose ‘Lattari’ mountains rise nearly 5000ft steeply from the deep blue sea. Wildflowers such as Broom and Cistus rose decorate the hillsides in Spring and cyclamen carpet the woods in autumn. It is hardly surprising to find out that the Roman emperor Tiberius moved his court to Capri, that the Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev owned an island near Positano or that American writer Gore Vidal chose Ravello for his home. Naples is famous for coffee and pizza (and chaos!) and lies at the foot of Mt Vesuvius with the excavations of Pompeii a few miles away.

Our journey starts here almost 2000 yrs ago when the once thriving market town of Pompeii was buried under ash during a massive eruption of the volcano. Thereafter the countryside and serenity of the Amalfi peninsula await us.

The tour of Puglia and Basilicata exceeded our expectations. We knew from prior tours with Caspin Journeys that it would be another great adventure. However, this one was extraordinaire from the villages and towns we visited to the very unique and posh hotel accommodations and incredible meals we enjoyed. The walks were gorgeous and vistas spectacular. It was yet another trip of a lifetime with two amazing tour professionals who excel at every aspect of what they do. We're already planning our next adventure with them!

My mother and I traveled to beautiful Tuscany, Italy in Nov. 2016 to celebrate my 40th birthday. I was looking for an opportunity to learn what it FEELS like to live in Italy, rather than just see the sights (which ARE wonderful and amazing!). We booked the cooking/food tour with Caspin Journeys and I could not have been more pleased with my experience. We began each day of our Tuscan adventure in the beautiful Nobile guest house relaxing with great coffee and delicate pastries from a local bakery. Each day we were guided by either Pino or Antonio & Simona to new towns to view the architecture, hear the stories of old, and learn about the treasured foods and wines. We stopped for Cappuccino (only before noon!) and expresso in the afternoon. We dined in wonderful restaurants filled with the local people, trying something new every time. We would have a small respite upon coming home to the Nobile guest house. When Luca (our Master Chef) arrived, we could either enjoy watching him at work or dive right in to learn how to prepare some of Tuscany’s finest foods. These evenings were so fun while cooking, feasting, drinking great wine, and enjoying the company of the Nobile family. For the week I spent in Italy, I felt well-guided, indulged, enlightened, and most importantly welcomed by this great Italian family … it was a trip my mother and I will never forget!

Pino & Caroline Nobile provide personalized high quality walking experiences. The planning that went into the Camino walk was obvious including the selection of walks, excellent hotel selection and amazing dining experiences. This was our 4th Caspin Journey's walk and lived up to the expected quality we have experienced previously. We look forward to our next Caspin Journey.

Itinerary

| DAY 1 |  Naples – Pompeii – Ravello

Pick up at 13.00 at the Naples airport and travel to the excavated Roman town of Pompeii to explore this fascinating and unique archaeological site. Life came to an abrupt halt with the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD and the entire roman city was completely buried for 1700 years. A scenic drive south follows along the bay of Salerno.

| DAY 2 | Paestum

Paestum is an ancient Greco-Roman city 40 km south of Salerno in a region known for its mozzarella di bufula. Settled by Greek colonists in the 6th century BC, Paestum was later occupied by Lucanians, Romans and Christians. Malarial swamps led to the abandonment of the city in the 9th century AD, but also helped preserve its finest artefacts.

Today, Paestum boasts three well-preserved Doric Greek temples, ruins of ancient houses and a museum. The site is a little off the beaten path makes an excellent complement to the Roman ruins at Pompeii. (5km/3hrs walk in archaeological park)

| DAY 3 | Ravello – Valle delle Ferriere – Amalfi

From the hamlet of Scala above Ravello we walk into the ‘Valle delle Ferriere’ Natural Park through cleverly cultivated vineyards and lemon groves.  After a light lunch, we enter the gorge and make our way past waterfalls, abandoned iron-works and paper mills as we descend into the bustling town of Amalfi for a well earned and thirst-quenching ‘sorbetto al limone’ in the heart of Amalfi. (walk 5hrs/14.5km)

 | DAY 4 Amalfi – Atrani – Ravello

Walk through lemon groves down to the tiny village of Atrani. Tour of Amalfi and the cathedral with free time to explore and have lunch (*not included).  Ride or walk back up to Ravello for free afternoon to visit the Duomo and gardens of Villa Rufolo and Cimbrone whose magnificent location offers the best views of this beautiful coastline. (walk +350m/3hrs/8km)

| DAY 5 |
Ravello – Sentiero degli Dei – Positano

Departure mid-morning for the start of the Sentiero degli Dei or ‘Path of the Gods’, a majestic trail overlooking spectacular coastal scenery which leads to the elegant resort of Positano. (walk 4hrs/13km)

| DAY 6 |  The island of Capri

Take a hydrofoil to Capri to enjoy its labyrinth of charming alleys and gardens of aromatic flowers and shrubs. A beautiful nature walk ending in the Piccola Marina. Time permitting tour up to Anacapri and the chair lift to Monte Solaro for views of the emerald blue sea and the faraglioni rocks. Alternative option is a day in the elegant boutiques and take in the atmosphere of outdoor cafes in Capri’s main square. Return by hydrofoil.

 | DAY 7 |  Punta Campanella

A delightful vigorous walk on Punta Campanella where the Sorrento Peninsula opens onto the Bay of Naples. Enjoy magnificent views of Mt Vesuvius, of our previous accomplishments and of the island of Capri. Free afternoon in Positano for last minute souvenirs (walk 4hrs/12km).

| LAST DAY |  Departure for Naples airport

Scheduled drop off at Naples airport at 10.00am (or earlier as long as this accommodates everyone in the group). If you wish, we can help you to extend your stay or make other independent departure arrangements such as taxis to the airport.
