Itinerary

Day 1 United States

Our Micato safari begins today as we fly to Europe.
Day 2 Nairobi

Welcome to Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city. An awaiting guide accompanies you to our elegant hotel where your rooms are ready and waiting.
Day 3 Nairobi

Today offers a stunning array of activities: a lecture by Maasai Elder Rakita, private luncheon, a tour of the renowned National Museum and even a visit to Giraffe Centre where we may hand feed giraffes. We also visit author Karen Blixen's, of Out of Africa fame, and enjoy dinner at the home of Micato Kenya's founders Felix and Jane Pinto.
Day 4 Tarangire National Park

We fly next to a gorgeous reserve celebrated for its millions of ancient baobab trees, creating a truly dramatic landscape. Lion (some tree-climbing!), leopard and a herd of 3,500 elephants add to the allure, and our refined accommodations at the tranquil Tarangire Sopa Lodge complete the enchantment.
Day 5 - Day 6 Ngorongoro Crater

Next we're on to Ngorongoro, the continent's “Garden of Eden”. From our stunning lodge on the rim, we descend 2,000 feet into this caldera and immerse ourselves in the largest concentration of animals in Africa, all of them coexisting with the Maasai people. Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.
Day 7 - Day 8 Serengeti National Park

We stop at Olduvai Gorge, the “cradle of mankind,” on our way to the inimitable Serengeti. Our high expectations are exceeded—lions roar, elephants trumpet, and we wonder at it all under wide blue skies. Hordes of animals roam the plain: impala, hyena, ostrich, gazelle along with predators like lion and hyena. This is the dream of “Old Africa.” We revel in comforts of Serengeti Sopa Lodge amid the wild charms of this region.
Day 9 - Day 10 Maasai Mara

We wing our way to the Maasai Mara, staying at the exclusive Mara Safari Club/Kichwa Tembo Camp. The Mara is the Africa of our reveries—a place where nature’s drama unfolds on a legendary natural stage. The Mara offers the finest game viewing in Kenya—even better from a hot-air balloon—in a stunningly beautiful setting of gently rolling grasslands and acacia trees. We also visit a Maasai village, taking in the culture of this proud people who have long shared these lands with their animal neighbors. Later, we sip cocktails as the sun sets gently over the Great Rift Valley.
Day 11 Nairobi - Departure

Flying back to Nairobi this morning, we may wish to visit an AmericaShare project, revisit a favourite site or simply relax in our dayroom. Later this evening we proceed to the airport, already fondly recalling the trip of a lifetime.
Day 12 Europe – United States

We arrive in Europe and continue to homebound flights.
