Set aside as an American treasure in 1938 under the National Park Service, Dinosaur National Monument is an open-air archive of ancient Native American sites and far-out fossils unearthed by wind, water and time. Within the monument, the Green River winds its way through three distinct canyons: Lodore, Whirlpool and Split Mountain all of which contains geological curiosities and rich human history. Lodore was the first major canyon encountered by John Wesley Powell and his men on their 1869 expedition. At its start, the river twists through a catacomb of scarlet slot canyons, yawning valleys and lush ledges of emerald evergreen and brush. Exploration is the mission of the day as the Green promises dozens of side hikes, relaxing nights on the beach and moderate whitewater perfect for young families and laid-back vacationers.

We most enjoyed the quality of the trip itinerary, the professionalism of the boatmen, and the organization of the daily schedule. The pace was excellent and helped the group build toward harder paddling and longer days. The meals were all excellent - fresh and well prepared. I especially enjoyed that each evening the guides would prepare us for the next day, read stories and poetry and sing. The overall atmosphere had a wonderful balance of relaxation and attention to safety/well-being of the group.

The guides were excellent. They provided many opportunities to try new things but always with safety oversight. My 9 year old and 12 year old boys had a great time. The guides also had lots of interesting information and stories and they were very fun! The food was excellent with good variety. The equipment was all in good shape and we liked having a variety of rafts (regular, paddle boats, duckies) to use during the trip. That really added an element of variety and interest to the trip. We enjoyed every aspect of the trip.

We loved our trip with Oars to Peru and now we only want to do more active vacations. We did like our comfy hotels at the end of the day and the great food but really enjoyed the outdoor aspects. Great Job!
