The lodge grounds boast ample opportunity for both solitude and adventure. Truly a full-service backcountry Alaskan lodge experience in the heart of Denali National Park.

Top 5 Reasons to Choose the Denali Kantishna Explorer

See Denali National Park & Preserve from a privileged vantage 90 miles inside the park boundaries, far away from the crowded park entrance. Denali is unspoiled wilderness with most visitor impact concentrated to the busy entrance area. Venture into the heart of the park for two or three nights, leaving the crowds far behind.

Two opportunities to search for wildlife along the entire Denali Park Road, both to and from your Kantishna lodging. Watch for bears, caribou, moose, Dall sheep and wolves along the way. Plus, the scenery is a photographer's delight!

Learn about sled dogs, native culture and the unique flora and fauna as you explore the Denali tundra.

Flexibility of choosing your independent trip dates between early June to early September and for anywhere from four or more days while knowing that your transportation, accommodations, transfers and many meals are already arranged for you.

It's the perfect complement to our Kenai Explorer and Kenai Wilderness Sampler packages, allowing you to experience Alaska's Southcentral region as well as the fabled Interior.

Itinerary

Denali Kantishna Explorer | Day 1: Arrive at the Anchorage Museum of History & Art anytime between 12:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. The museum is located at 121 West 7th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. Load your luggage into the Park Connection motorcoach, then enjoy exploring the museum. The motorcoach will depart promptly at 3:00 p.m. Sit back and relax as your driver transports you comfortably from Anchorage to Denali National Park. Arrive at your hotel near the park entrance at approximately 8:30 p.m. Dine at any of the restaurants in the area. Overnight at the park entrance. (All meals are on your own this day.)

Denali Kantishna Explorer | Day 2: Enjoy a morning on your own to visit the Denali National Park Visitor Access Center, visit the shops and galleries at the park entrance, arrange for a raft trip or flightseeing excursion or just sleep in. Take a shuttle from the hotel to the Denali train depot at 1:00 p.m. where you will board the private Kantishna Roadhouse bus. Soon after, you're on your way to a memorably narrated wildlife drive inside the park. Your driver will share his or her knowledge about the local wildlife and history of the area. Look for bear, caribou and moose as you venture along the 90 mile park road to Kantishna. Arrive at 8:30 p.m. and settle in to your cabin. Dinner and overnight at Kantishna Roadhouse. (D)

Denali Kantishna Explorer | Day 3 (& 4 if you choose): Explore, gold pan, photograph, hike, or bike in the Kantishna region of Denali National Park. Your day(s) can be as active or relaxed as you like. For some, venturing out for a casual stroll on the spongy tundra is a highlight! For others, a full-day trek is a must. Clear days offer stunning views of Mt. McKinley (Denali) and, no matter what the weather, you'll delight in knowing you are far removed from the crowds. In the evenings, enjoy a presentation by one of the resident lodge staff or just relax in your cabin near Moose Creek. Overnight at Kantishna Roadhouse. (B,L,D)

Denali Kantishna Explorer | Last Day: Search for wildlife again on a morning drive back to the park entrance. At the depot, transfer your luggage to the Alaska Railroad. Board the train and sit back and enjoy the ride from Denali to Anchorage. Lunch, dinner, and transfers not included. Meals are available for purchase on the train. (B)

Denali Kantishna Explorer | Departure: Arrive at the Anchorage train depot by approximately 8:30 p.m. on the last day of your trip. We recommend you spend this night in Anchorage. If you must fly home this night, we suggest you book a flight that departs after midnight in case of possible transportation delays.
