Itinerary

Day 1 (Flagstaff) Ride a chairlift to the top of Snow Bowl Ski Mountain and hike the meadows and trails of this alpine paradise. Bird’s eye views of the surrounding high desert are spectacular. Afterwards we head underground into the Lava River Cave to explore the depths of the volcanic past. Then head into Flagstaff for dinner at a premiere downtown location.

Day 2 (Grand Canyon) After a hearty breakfast, head north with your guides towards the Grand Canyon. Along the way, investigate dinosaur tracks, ancient ruins, and Sunset Crater. Next stop, the Indian Trading Post at Cameron to enjoy lunch and browse the craft markets. But our real objective on this day is clear and as we approach the eastern side of Grand Canyon National Park, for our first sight of the vast and awe-inspiring chasm that is the Grand Canyon! The guides lead you along the South Rim of the Canyon and ultimately to your lodging, located right in Grand Canyon Village. Cap off this perfect day with a rim-side dinner at the historic El Tovar dining room.

Day 3 (Grand Canyon) This is your day for a guided exploration of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World! Hike down a ways into the canyon, or bike along the rim through forests to emerge in the vast expanse of the Canyon. Or spend the day exploring Ancestral Puebloan culture at ruins and rock art sites, or—whatever! Your guides are there to enrich the experience with accounts of natural history, ecology, geology, and ancient cultures. This evening, we’ll head into the ponderosa forest for a fun picnic dinner, complete with camp-style games, a crackling campfire, and, of course, s’mores!

Day 4 (Red Mountain, Lowell Observatory, and Sedona) After breakfast, we say goodbye to the Grand Canyon and head to Sedona. Along the way, we’ll enjoy a great hike at Red Mountain, before descending into Flagstaff for lunch and a private tour at the remarkable Lowell Observatory. After the tour, it’s just a few miles to Sedona and the final two nights of your journey. After settling into our resort rooms, the guides take the kids out to dinner so you can enjoy dinner at one of Sedona’s many wonderful restaurants.

Day 5 (Red Rock Country, Oak Creek) Head to the Oak Creek Canyon natural waterslide this morning, where the soft, sandstone creek bed has eroded into chutes, slides, pools, and waterfalls. Swim, splash, and play, or lounge under a tree to watch the watery action from a dry distance. In the afternoon, climb aboard a jeep and travel the back roads of Sedona’s red rock country listening to the guide’s stories as you bounce along the 4x4 roads.

Day 6 (Sedona and departures home) Spend the morning hiking in scenic Boynton Canyon, walk one of the other great Sedona trails, or hit the shops before heading to the airport to catch your afternoon connection home.
