Day 2 • Saturday

Guayaquil / Baltra / Bartolomé Island

Day 3 • Sunday

Isabela Island: Punta Vicente Roca / Fernandina Island: Punta Espinosa

Pangas take our small Galapagos Islands tour on a dramatic ride into the heart of a sunken volcano at Punta Vicente Roca, where you have the opportunity to snorkel among sea turtles, penguins and possibly sea horses. Explore the pahoehoe lava fields of Punta Espinosa, where we are apt to spot flightless cormorants and some of the largest marine iguanas. Take advantage of the Evolution’s open-air decks to whale watch while enjoying a savory snack and fruit juice. (B,L,D)

Day 4 • Monday

Isabela Island: Urvina Bay and Elizabeth Bay

Hike along the uplifted section of sea floor in Urvina Bay. Our naturalists will point out the finches, tortoises, mocking birds, Galapagos hawks and other wildlife that feed on the vegetation. This is also the best place during our expedition to find large, colorful land iguanas. Swim or snorkel from the beach with sea turtles and small sharks. Spend the afternoon enjoying a panga ride in the mangrove swamps of Elizabeth Bay. (B,L,D)

Day 5 • Tuesday

Isabela Island

Begin our day at the Sierra Negra Volcano. A bus will take our group from Puerto Villamil toward the top of the volcano. A short hike will take you the rest of the way for a breathtaking view of the caldera. Explore brackish lagoons for an opportunity to see flocks of brilliant greater flamingos. This afternoon, choose between visiting the historic Wall of Tears, built by prisoners held when the island served as a penal colony, or relaxing on the nearby beach. (B,L,D)

Day 6 • Wednesday

Santa Cruz Island

Today we visit Santa Cruz Island. Begin the day at the Charles Darwin Research Station, world famous for its research and tortoise breeding programs. See baby tortoises and meet famed lonesome George, the last surviving member of the Pinta Island subspecies. Learn about the vital work being done to study and preserve Galapagos wildlife. Drive to the highlands and see a very different side of the Galapagos: the forested highlands. We look for giant tortoises in the wild, with ample opportunity to photograph the tortoises in their verdant habitat. Walk through the forest surrounding a pair of pit craters, named "Los Gemelos," an excellent place to spot vermillion flycatchers. Before returning to the Evolution, we have free time to explore the village of Puerto Ayora, the largest human settlement in the Galapagos. (B,L,D)

Day 7 • Thursday

Floreana Island

Take a leisurely hike to Post Office Bay, once used by British navigators to send mail and messages for homebound messengers. Descend into a lava tube that empties into the Pacific before a panga ride along La Loberia all the way to El Mirador de la Baronesa. During our ride, see the ever-present sea lions, pelicans, frigatebirds and herons. Enjoy superb snorkeling at Devil’s Crown, where sea water has filled the sunken cinder cone of an extinct volcano. Walk along the olivine beaches of Punta Cormorant among the sea lions. After hiking to a flamingo lagoon, spot fish and sea turtles during a relaxing stroll along a powder-white coral beach. (B,L,D)

Day 8 • Friday

Española Island: Punta Suarez and Gardner Bay

Enjoy a panga ride along the cliffs with our guides before wading ashore to Punta Suarez through a sea lion colony. Walk along the cliffs looking for Galapagos doves, waved albatrosses, Galapagos hawks, Hood mockingbirds and the red-colored race of marine iguana en route to Española’s blowhole, where waves spout 90 feet into the air. After a relaxing lunch, swim or snorkel in the waters off Gardner Bay, or you may simply bring along your camera or a book to relax. This is also an excellent spot for trying out the Evolution’s kayaks. (B,L,D)
