We are committed to employing local people to the maximum extent possible. We select our guides for their knowledge of wildlife and birds, their ability to teach and for their gracious hospitality-their ability to make you feel at home in their home. Our guide to guest ratio is low: one guide for every four or five guests.

Ecological/Environmental Impact

Wildlife disturbance, site disturbance, debris and fuel consumption are primary concerns. We practice low intrusion wildlife viewing. Camps and routes are selected to minimize site disturbance. All debris is removed and waste properly disposed of. We maintain vehicles and minimize fuel use by emphasizing walking and stopping engines whenever possible.

Sociological Impact

Cultural misunderstandings, injected consumerism, and community disruption are key concerns. We emphasize cross-cultural understanding through education. We vary our cultural visits and limit group size to avoid community disturbance. We educate our quests on how to interact without giving offense, disrupting community norms, or injecting consumerist values in traditional cultures.

Economic Impact

Equitable revenue distribution and minimal economic disruption are key goals. We buy locally whenever possible. We pay fair wages and provide employees with adequate food, clothing, and equipment. We employ local providers whenever possible. We assist local operators with advice and counseling. We partner with NGOs that provide local improvements.

Best Practices

We are replacing battery operated lights and radios with solar power to minimize battery pollution. We remove and/or burn toilette and other papers in camp toilettes. We are emphasizing walking safaris to minimize the impact of vehicles in safari areas. We have added "sustainability" to our annual guide education program.
