Ecological/Environmental Impact

MEDASH has implemented numerous community projects in sustainable tourism and agriculture through training local farmers to shift to organic techniques, designing and operating complete sustainable farms (including water recycling and waste), as well as implementing pesticide-free landscapes for major hotel groups throughout Greece. Our classes are limited to 8 people. Accommodation is in a small village in central Crete owned by a local organic olive grower. Organic farms nearby are our classroom.

Sociological Impact

Our objective is to introduce our students to real Crete. We do that by introducing them to the people who live here who are dedicated to the preservation of their culture and traditional trades.

Economic Impact

We not only pay our local partners well above the average salary they would make in unsustainable tourism positions, but we also provide resources for continuing education and promotion of their work (see Terra Madre on www.slowfood.com). We also promote the formation of new cooperatives.

Best Practices

By providing visitors with the whole picture of Crete, as it was and as it is now, our local partners have the opportunity to share their skills and rekindle visitor interest in what their ancestors stood for: a great respect for their culture and natural resources.
