Itinerary
Day 1: Mumbai
Arrive in Mumbai. Transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Mumbai
Sightseeing tour of Mumbai - visit Prince of Wales Museum, the Gateway of India, drive up the Malabar hill to see Hanging Gardens and Kamla Nehru Park. Also visit the Mani Bhawan - a small museum dedicated to the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi.
Day 3: Mumbai / Saputara (270 Km, 6-7 hrs)
Go to Saputara via Nasik. Saputara is a hill resort, known as abode of serpents. It can serve as a base camp for visiting various tribal villages in the area. Visit the famous Dangi tribe considered to be the most primitive tribal community of this region. In the evening, witness the Dangi Tribal dance.
Day 4: Saputara
Proceed for full day excursion of tribal villages, visiting Limba, Kosambia and other villages north of Saputara. Here you will closely observe the various life styles of Dangi tribe. On return, visit the Dangi Craft Studio which houses the local art of Dangi Tribes.Evening enjoy the dinner along with the tribal dance performance in the hotel.
Day 5: Saputara / Surat (210 km, 6-7 hrs)
Depart for Surat (210 kms) enroute stop at Ahwa, located to the North West of Saputara. You will have an enchanting experience getting to know the beautiful life style of Dangi tribe.
Day 6: Surat / Vadodara ( 160 kms, 4-5 hrs)
Proceed for Vadodara the Garden city. This city serves as a base to visit various tribal villages of Panchmahal and Vadodara district.In the afternoon, a city tour is planned to visit the Archeological museum, Maharaja Palace museum and Jumma Mosque.
Day 7: Vadodara
Depart for Chota Udaipur, for full day excursion to Rathwa and Dhanka Tribal villages. Take a look at the interesting Tribal market. The Rathwa and Dhanka tribes migrated from Central India, worked as agricultural labourers and also worshipped Hindu God and Goddess. You come across the images of these Gods & Goddess while walking through these villages.
Day 8: Vadodara / Bhavnagar (200 km 4-5 hrs)
Morning depart by surface to Bhavnagar ( 200 kms ) with enroute stop at Lothal - the famous excavated site of Harappan Civilization Lothal is the site of a city dating to the 2nd millennium B.C. and is of immense significance as a settlement of the Harappan era as well as the port. Excavations have revealed a planned city with intricate underground drainage system, wells, houses and baths all pointing to an exceptionally advanced system of living. Also visit the unique museum nearby. Continue drive for Bhavnagar.
Day 9:Bhavnagar / Gondal (63 km, 2 hrs)
Depart Bhavnagar early in the morning to visit Palitana Jain temple complex. The spires of 863 Jain temples pierce the clouds on the summit of Shatrunjay hill, capturing the essence of eternity. The oldest temple dates back a thousand years and the newest 150 years. Continue your journey to Gondal (160 kms). On arrival, check in at Gondal Palace. In the evening, we take a tour of Palace grounds to see the largest private collection of Vintage cars.
Day 10: Gondal / Bhuj (260 km, 6-7 hrs)
Proceed to Bhuj - an arid land of greater Rann of Kachchh, enroute stopping at Morbi. Visit the Kachchh Museum and also move around the interesting market place.
Day 11: Bhuj
Excursion of Bunny villages to view the famous art and craftsmanship - famous for its handicrafts, paintings, embroidery, wooden arts (Ludiya, Bhirandiyara, Hodko, Sumrasaar).
Day 12: Bhuj / Zainabad
Depart Bhuj enroute visiting Tundavandh tribal Rabari village - the inhabitants of this tribe are semi - nomads who travel with their herds of cattle in search of the fodder. Continue the drive to Zainabad.
Day 13: Zainabad
Jeep Safari in Little Rann of Kachchh to see the famous Asiatic Wild Ass. This is the India’s second largest wild life sanctuary. Cacti flowers and rosy flamingoes set the sky ablaze with their brilliant pink. Visit nearby tribal villages of shepherds.
Day 14: Zainabad / Poshina
Poshina is located on the border of Gujrat - Rajasthan Tribal belt of Garacia tribes. These tribes are considered descendants of Bhil Rajputs and are known for being the most acculturated tribe. Enroute also visit the famous Sun Temple of Modhera built in 1012 AD - exemplifying one of the famous temple architecture. Dedicated to the Sun God, the temple dominates the landscape for miles around. Its antiquity notwithstanding - it is nearly 100 years old - it is in a remarkable state of preservation. Outside, the pillars supporting the structure are carved with profusion of figures, animals and Gods and the interior is austere in contrast, with only the rays of the Sun reflecting the spot where the image of Sun God stood, before invaders destroyed it.
Day 15: Poshina
Proceed for a full day excursion to visit the Tribal villages. You will come across hamlets of Bhils who claim 400 years of history in the Aravallis and the Garacias - famous for their colourful attires and artistic ornaments. Pastoral tribes of this region include the Rabaries. The typical craft of this area include tribal arrow crafting, bow stringing, basket weaving and pottery. You can shop here for silver jewellery, local made knives and terra cotta figurines of the tribal Horse God.
Day 16: Poshina / Ahemadabad
Morning depart for Ahmedabad. In the afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour of city visiting Teen Darwaza - a triple gateway 37 feet high built by Sultan Ahmed, Jamma Masjid, the Hathi Singh temple - a richly carved temple surrounded by 52 smaller temples Rani Sipri Mosque and Shaking minarets.
Day 17: Ahemadabad / Delhi
Morning visit Sabarmati Ashram, Tribal museum and Calico Textile museum. The Calico textile museum is the only one of its kind in India, having representative collection of traditional prints and dyes from every centre in this country.
Day 18: Delhi
Visit Old Delhi, the former Mughal Capital in the vibrant bazaars of Chandni Chowk.Afternoon visit the famous sights of New Delhi including India Gate, drive pass Parliament street, President House and visit Qutub Minar.
In the evening you can choose to visit an Indian Family Home and your hosts will be happy to invite you for dinner and cocktails. Optionally, we would be happy to arrange for a visit to the theatre or music show of the day.
Day 19: Delhi-Agra by surface
Today we drive to Agra.
Agra
Agra was the capital of the Mughal dynasty. The strength of the dynasty is visible in the huge forts and monuments that have been built by them. A small city but has witnessed the rise and the fall of the empire. It was build by Akbar the great and remained the capital till it was shifted to Delhi. Attracting the maximum number of tourists is the city of the Taj Mahal. The over 300 year-old white marble Taj is the main draw along with the various monuments and historical sites dating back to the Mughal period.
In the afternoon, visit Taj Mahal – the grandeur of which envelopes you the moment you have a firt time glimpse of the colossal.Taj Mahal was built in 1630 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his deceased wife Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. Later in the day, visit Agra Fort. Construction of Agra Fort was begun by Emperor Akbar in 1565, and additions were made up until the time of his grandson, Shah Jehan. While in Akbar’s time the Fort was principally a military structure, by shah Johan’s time it had become partially a palace. There are many fascinating buildings inside the massive walls, which stretch for 2½ Kms surrounded by a moat over 10 meters wide. The Fort is at the bank of river Yamuna and overlooks Taj Mahal
Day 20: Agra-Jaipur by surface
Enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri. In the evening you can explore the town and spend some time shopping.
Day 21: Jaipur
Visit Amber Fort. Thereafter, we also go around Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds).The ancient Rajput capital of Amber, 11 km from Jaipur, was begun by Raja Man Singh and used by the Rajputs as their stronghold until Sawai Jai Singh II moved to the newly created Jaipur. See the Diwan-I-Am or hall of public audience, Kali temple, Jai Mandir or hall of victory with its inlaid panels and mirror ceiling, and Sukh Niwas. The fort provides breathtaking views of the lake below. Ascend to the fort by elephant
Also visit Jaipur - the Maharaja’s City Palace and the Jantar Mantar Observatory. Jaipur’s walled City Palace (1732 AD) occupies one-seventh of the city’s area. See the Mubarak Mahal, museums of textiles and armoury etc, and the Diwan I Khas and Diwan I Am. Jantar Mantar, literally meaning “instruments for measuring the harmony of the heavens” is the oldest observatory in India.
Day 22: Jaipur- Delhi
Drive back to Delhi. Reach the airport to connect flight back home.
