A Passion for Genuine Exploration

Who would have thought, back in 1969, that the efforts of a small, fledgling travel company, whose only aim was to "promote exploration and enjoyment of mountain wilderness areas by active participation," would launch an entire industry? We never dreamed we were pioneers, never imagined our own passion for adventure would be so contagious.

We named the company Mountain Travel, in honor of the high places of the world we so loved to explore. Four years later, Sobek (named after the ancient Egyptian crocodile-headed water god who granted us safe passage on our first exploratory endeavor) was launched on a parallel path. These two illustrious companies combined forces in 1991 to create Mountain Travel Sobek.

The passion that fueled our early years lives strongly on and is evident in the travel experiences we continue to provide each year. On a Mountain Travel Sobek trip, you'll discover a bounty of untold pleasures: the exhilaration of achievement as you stretch yourself and the boundaries of your horizons; the deep spiritual enrichment that comes from encountering the planet's diverse people and wildlife; and the sheer fun that comes from being "out there."
